L'HIStory World Tour iniziò il 7 settembre 1996 a Praga e finì il 15 ottobre 1997. L'HIStory World Tour incluse 83 concerti eseguiti in 5 continenti e 35 nazioni per un totale di 4,5 milioni di spettatori: Jackson supera il suo stesso Bad World Tour al quale assistettero 4,4 milioni di persone.
Dopo poche ore dall'inizio della parte australiana dell'HIStory World Tour il 14 novembre 1996, Michael Jackson sposò Debbie Rowe in una cerimonia civile nella suite presidenziale all'hotel Sheraton On The Park a Sydney.

La tappa di Seul tenutasi nel 1996 allo Chamsil Olympic Stadium fu ripresa e commercializzata in VHS soltanto in Asia. Michael è stato il primo cantante nella storia a fare il tutto esaurito allo Aloha Stadium di Honolulu, nelle Hawaii. Tenne infatti due concerti con tutto esaurito per circa 35.000 persone a serata.
